Quartersawn Steamed London Plane Tree “Lacewood”

Sam and big sycamore The lanes of Provence, France are lined with Sycamore trees due to Napoleon. When he was still ruling the country he ordered the trees to be planted so his men could always march in the shade.

After quartersawing these Planetree logs in Europe to get the lace figure I had them steamed to get the cherry or rosy color of the heart wood to also color the sapwood. It makes the rope curl more pronounced. This steaming protects the wood from getting sap stain and sticker stain. When bookmatching this lumber it creates a stunning herring bone pattern. These logs are the same tree we call Sycamore in America but I do not steam the lumber I cut here. This leaves a two tone wood whitch is also a very stunning effect when bookmatching.

I must say that Sycamore or Lacewood is my favorite wood of all. I have been cutting for over 40 years in the business and use it more in my personal projects than anything else in my WOOD PORN yard. If it was not for this wood THERE WOULD BE NO TALARICO HARDWOODS. Quarterd Sycamore is why I started Talarico Hardwoods.
