This amazing brown Irish Oak Burr #1767 & 1768 came from the Shanes Castle in Antrim, Northern Ireland and is FSC certified. The castle stands on the northwest corner of the Lough Neagh. The Oak Burr was so big it had to be cut in half to move it and get it into a container to be shipped to our yard. It yielded small and large flitches and everything in between. It has beautiful burl figure with good color and was all cut to 10/4 thickness. It is on sticks drying now. This huge oak burr has plenty of history. If it could only tell the stories.
This huge root was from the amazing curly English Walnut tree that the huge flitch above came from. The root was 18′ in diameter. We cleaned it up a little at a time over 5 years to get it ready to cut. It was full of stones and dirt that the root grew around. We cut it into 12/4 flitches. The wood is all highly figured with beautiful color.
