Cedar of Lebanon – Cedrus Libani
I found this log in my travels through Europe. I had it cut into 12/4 flitches. They are up to 45″ wide and 11′ long. This species is very hard to find. This lumber was prized an exploited by the Phoenicians, Israelites, Egyptians, Persians, Romans, and the Turks. They used it for ship building. Most of the ancient Cedar forests have been devastated by centuries of cutting. It has a wonderful intoxicating sweet aroma and is very durable against insects and weather. These flitches would make incredible and unusual tabletops.
